A port has many access points to control

Marinas and marine facilities need to distinguish staff, users and visitors, restricting access to areas not intended for the public.

  1. Staff accessManaging entries by authorised operators.
  2. User accessControlling access by the facility's users, where applicable.
  3. VisitorsManaging external people and visitors.
  4. Restricted areasRestricting access to zones reserved exclusively for authorised people.
  5. Multiple gatesManaging several entry and exit points.
  6. ControlHaving information on access available, where provided by the solution.

Solutions for different port and marine settings

Marinas are explicitly mentioned on the Daicon website as an area of application for access control solutions with payment. The other categories are presented as possible applications of the same solution, without a direct reference documented yet.

From the person to the authorised area

The actual configuration depends on the facility and the operator's needs: not every installation necessarily uses all the elements of the process.

1

Person

Staff, a user or a visitor arrives at the facility's gate.

2

Identification

Badges, cards or credentials are read by the system at the entrance.

3

Authorisation check

The software checks the validity of the credential and the associated authorisations.

4

Gate / turnstile

If the check is successful, the gate opens.

5

Entry

The person enters the permitted area.

6

Registration

The transit is recorded, if provided by the system used.

Control access to restricted areas

Not everyone should be able to access every area.

Offices, technical rooms, operational areas and authorised-access zones may require a different level of control from common areas.

Our solutions for ports and marine facilities

Photographs of specific access control installations in ports or marinas are not yet documented on the Daicon website, although "marinas" are explicitly mentioned as an area of application. Daicon does, however, have a real, documented presence in the marine sector through the distribution of Icom marine radio equipment (VHF, GMDSS, AIS/DSC), with a rental service for nautical events, regattas and charters and delivery to the port β€” a different area from access control, but concrete proof of experience in the sector. The closest real photographs in terms of access control technology concern an energy infrastructure and trade fair installations.

Section to be updated with direct photographs of access control in port settings as soon as they are available.
