The Icom GMDSS range covers SOLAS requirements from the bridge to the survival craft: the GM600 VHF with Class A DSC, the long-range GM800 MF/HF and the MED-certified IC-GM1600E handheld for lifeboats. Daicon is an authorised Icom partner for Milan and Genoa.
Icom GM600
The GM600 is the VHF GMDSS transceiver with Class A DSC for fixed installation on board. MED certified (Wheel Mark) for SOLAS compliance, with a 4.3” wide-angle TFT display, DSC Task mode and 10 W audio on an external speaker. It integrates with the GM800 MF/HF for a complete GMDSS station.
A dedicated DSC watch receiver continuously monitors CH70. It stores 100 MMSI numbers with 10-character names. DSC Task mode handles up to 7 simultaneous DSC procedures.
Colour LCD with a viewing angle of almost 180° and high-resolution characters. Night mode ensures excellent readability in the dark; it also works when installed in an instrument panel.
Front panel with IPX7 protection (1 m/30 min). The rear panel has an anti-corrosion coating to withstand the most aggressive marine environments.
Internal speaker with a waterproof paper cone for superior audio quality across a wide frequency range. Connected to an external speaker, it delivers 10 W of audio power for noisy environments.
When a DSC call is received a pop-up appears; pressing [Accept] sends the acknowledgement. After sending or receiving, the radio enters Task Mode: up to 7 stored procedures, navigable with [Next Task].
The optional PS-310 DC-DC converter supplies a stable 12.6 V to the GM600 from 12 V or 24 V sources with a floating ground connection. It protects against momentary interruptions and is required for MED compliance.
Icom GM800
The GM800 is the MF/HF transceiver for long-range communications. It meets SOLAS requirements for commercial vessels on international voyages, with an IEC 62923-compliant Bridge Alert Management (BAM) function, a built-in 24 V DC-DC converter and 150 W PEP output power.
Output power of 150 W PEP into 50 Ω at the radio terminal. 125 W (4.0–27.5 MHz) and 85 W (1.6–3.999 MHz) at the tuner. Built-in 24 V DC-DC converter for simplified installation.
A dedicated DSC receiver cyclically scans the six distress channels. It stores 100 MMSIs with names. The DSC Multitask function shows up to seven DSC procedures and supports distress relay calls.
Compliant with IEC 62923-1 and IEC 62923-2. It connects to the central CAM system and transmits BAM sentences via the IEC 61162-1 interface, allowing the bridge team to identify every alert situation immediately.
Colour LCD with a viewing angle of almost 180°, high-resolution characters and night mode for low-light environments. Clearly readable even when installed in the bridge panel.
The GM800 (MF/HF) and GM600 (VHF) share the same operating philosophy. Directional keypad, softkeys and numeric keypad ensure consistent operation of the two units for a complete GMDSS station.
A 24 V DC-DC converter built into the transceiver for a compact, reliable installation. IEC 61162-1 interface for a GNSS receiver. Centronics IEEE1284 printer connector and remote distress alarm.
Icom IC-GM1600E
The IC-GM1600E is the handheld VHF transceiver for survival craft. It meets IMO MSC.149(77) and MED 2014/90/EU (Wheel Mark) standards for use on board lifeboats and life rafts. The BP-234 lithium battery guarantees over 8 hours of operation even at −20°C.
MED (Marine Equipment Directive) certified for mandatory use on board merchant vessels subject to SOLAS. It passes temperature, thermal shock, vibration and 1 m drop tests.
The BP-234 lithium battery (non-rechargeable, 3300 mAh) guarantees over 8 hours of operation (Tx:Rx:standby = 6:6:48) even at −20°C, essential for use on survival craft.
Withstands immersion at a depth of 1 m for 30 minutes as specified by IMO resolution MSC.149(77). A rugged structure designed to withstand the harshest conditions at sea.
Large keys and knobs with positive tactile feedback for confident operation even with gloves or under stress. Operating instructions are printed on the rear panel.
Direct one-key access to channel 16 (distress) and the call channel. All operations can be performed with one hand, so the unit can be used even by non-expert operators in an emergency.
The high-visibility yellow body makes it easy to find in the water or in low light. VOX headset option for hands-free use on board.
In addition to GMDSS equipment, Daicon distributes the entire Icom Marine range: from fixed and blackbox VHF radios to marine radars and AIS transponders for complete on-board installations.
